Welcome To The First Social Tango-Based Mental Wellness Program

The Mind Flourish Group is a team building and managing a coalition of prestigious stakeholders such as leading global mental and brain health institutions, academics, mindfulness experts, global tango organizations and corporate partners – committed to advancing equitable mental and brain health.

We are the first in the world to move tango beyond its traditional niche as a dance and cultural asset, bringing it into the broader mainstream by repositioning it as a tool to support mental wellness and brain health. In doing so, we are drawing on and implementing cutting-edge academic and scientific research that captures the unique mental wellness and preventative brain health benefits of tango. We are thus redefining tango and expanding it into a new dimension with far greater relevance and appeal to a broader global audience.

The uniqueness of tango as a mental wellness and preventative brain health tool is that it combines mindfulness, movement (generating serotonin) and the benefits of social interaction and shared creativity.

With our partners, we create and distribute ‘tango as mental wellness and brain health’ programs, which consist of tango, tango-mindfulness, and tango bodywork classes, both virtual and in-person, as well as regular in-person community dance events.

Our partners include corporations, nursing homes, gyms, and other community settings.

Our programs are for anyone interested in healthy brain ageing and mental well-being, especially non-dancers and those who have never danced tango before. Equity and inclusion underpin our mission, and we heartily welcome people across the age spectrum, and of all backgrounds.

...increases mindfulness and presence; builds resilience; reduces stress and promotes better emotional regulation

... is more effective than exercise (circuit training) and mindfulness meditation in producing a “broader and more persistent range of [mental health] benefits”

... enables better connection with your own body and self, and with others

... "promotes interaction and reduces isolation, which increases cooperative behaviors and empathy, two key aspects of our brain health” [neuro-scientist Agustin Ibanez]

... helps develop leadership skills, trust-building and collaboration skills

How tango improves mental well-being

Boosts cognitive thinking: awareness of one’s own body and the partner’s body, strategising the steps and navigating the dance-floor

Creates a sense of belonging and companionship, reducing feelings of isolation

Boosts creativity and playfulness, raising the individual’s mood

Focuses on bodywork, centers the individual on physical responses and dynamics within their body, learning energy flows, control and balance, which helps reduce symptoms of mental disabilities such as anxiety and disassociation

The embrace boosts oxytocin levels

Helps reduce symptoms of mental disabilities such as anxiety and disassociation

Why social tango is unique in its benefits

Social tango combines the benefits of movement therapy with mindfulness and social interaction

Traditional mental wellness programs focus on individual self-care, but not on relational well-being (i.e. the benefits of relating and interacting with others) – social tango does both

Traditional mental wellness programs also do not incorporate movement (like social tango or exercise) – and movement boosts mood (serotonin) and helps better regulate emotions
